Picture of my boat. I THINK this is in Shallow bay on Sucia Island.

Nice looking boat. What kind of radar do you have and are you happy with it?

I have been looking at the various options and want to make sure I get the right unit.

It's a Raytheon Pathfinder, one of the 12 mile ones. I am very happy with it. I bought it because it was a "best buy" in a review done by Practical Sailor a few years back. Like computers, It's outdated soon after you buy it. Were I to buy now, I'd get one that overlays the chart on my laptop.:)

I have a website with more pictures and information.http://hometown.aol.com/themazama/myhomepage/index2.html
(I hate these long ones)
If you can get there, I think you will find the site informative.

Well, did you "check it out"? I am most excited (?) by the swing mount for the display and the removable radar mast. All work was performed by Rodgers Marine in Portland. (Link on web page) All this only matters if you own a small boat. I see from the recent survey on "How long is your boat" that mine is the only one (so far) under 25'.

As i said before, I would prefer one that would overlay the radar image on my laptop screen as that is how I navigate.

Yes I did. Sorry, I have been away for a couple of days.

The site looks great. I like the display mounted on the swing arm. It's difficult in most sailboats to find a good place for the display. (at least from what I have seen)

The "click here for more" link does not work for me today. It did a couple of days ago, though.

That's AOL, if I wasen't so old I would learn html and do the site up right. It crashes on me sometimes when I go in to make some chamges. It is free however (up to 12 MB) with my AOL membership.

Your Pacific Dolphin 24 is pretty! Sweet sheer! Who built her? Who designed her? I sail a Chuck Paine design (see my profile) and your boat reminds me of Paine, who drew my boat and all the Morris yachts, or Mark Ellis, who drew the Niagaras for Hinterhoeller in Canada.

And I agree on the radar display, on a smaller boat you can get overrun by displays pretty quickly these days - I like the idea of overlaying radar on a chart, and overlaying GPS position data as well, and doing it all on a laptop display - add a DVD to the mix and you can switch from nav data to an old movie while you're drifting, waiting for the fog to llift - -

But so far it costs more to stick with one display than to get a bunch of separate ones, it seems - I was intrigued by the new Nobeltec "RadarPC" setup, which doesn't include a display and costs more than a comparable radar set with display! Software is too expensive in the marine market, I think - -

Oops - thought there was a photo of my boat, "Mystery," on the profile page, but no - - now let's see if I can figure out how to attach a photo here:

Designed by Sparkman & Stephens. I get many favorable comments on the appearance, but some of the other aspects of the design I don't like so well.

My two most memorable times cought in the fog were between Anacorties and Port Townsed. A small craft advisory was issued one time for Admiralty Inlet. I had to ride out on the bow listening for engone sounds and sounding the fog horn at appropiate intervals. Didn't score any good points with the wife then. Watch a movie??? Perhaps The Perfect Storm.

Yes, they are priced out of reach for even a person of my vast wealth. And have you seen the prices of the weather fax setups that will display weather maps on the computer screen?
